This is a guest post by freelance journalist Zachary Boren who agreed to write an exclusive review of a Jazz show in New York for London Blues & Jazz
And you think we’re spoiled for jazz in London.
Last week, whilst I was in New York, I arranged a night at Dizzy’s – the intimate jazzery attached to the Lincoln Centre overlooking Columbus Square in the heart of Manhattan.
Saturday the 9th was strange day to be there; it was the finale of the Centre’s annual jazz band competition, with musically gifted kids from high schools and colleges around the US wandering the red hallways jittering with adrenaline. I think the lot that I saw were from Juilliard, perhaps America’s premier arts school.
